This listing is for a set of accessories for a Gogatsu display in honour of Children’s Day in Japan.  It is tradition to display such items during Tango-no-sekku festivities in early May in the hope that sons will grow up with courage and strength.  The set consists of a war fan display, a taiko drum display, and a jingasa display.  A jingasa is a type of hat worn by samurai and foot soldiers.  They are made of a combination of materials such as wood, lacquer, plastic, metal and silk.  The display stands are made of plastic and the drum is coated in lacquer. These items are typically displayed with a small O-yoroi armour.  The suit of armour would occupy the top tier of the display, and these three items would be placed on the tier below.  This particular set dates back to the late Showa period and comes with its original paper storage box.

Condition

The entire set is in very good condition with only very minor signs of wear.  There’s minor patina on the fan, as well as some very minor scratches.  There are light scratches mainly on one end of the drum (pictured), the green fabric has come undone on one end of the ‘rope’ that secures the jingasa.
