This listing is for an antique Tenpo 5 (1834) carry box.   The front is hand-painted and decorated with what appears to be plovers and crashing waves.  Two strips of wood on the lid are made of persimmon wood, and the handle is also decorated with a pattern of thin lines.  There is writing on the lid interior, however it’s very difficult to decipher.  We could read Tenpo 5, and there is some kind of reference to a carpenter and ‘night lantern’.  This item is quite ample in size and could be used to storage jubako and the like.  It would also make a great display item.  Please read below in regards to its condition.

Condition

Parts of the lid are loose, the top can come straight off (can be easily fixed with wood glue), and the board on the bottom is loose, however it still slots in and out as it should though.  There are a lot of marks/scuffing etc on the exterior and some of the edges are worn and splintered.  Most marks/discolouration is on top.  There are indentations on the bottom, and an imperfection in the wood.  The bottom right corner is slightly loose, and an imperfection in the wood on the interior.  There’s also a minor imperfection in the wood on the back and side.  The handle is still strong and in good working condition.
