This listing is for a vintage Japanese bamboo calligraphy brush holder made around 30-40 years ago.  It is hand-crafted from a single piece of bamboo, and retains its organic cylindrical shape.  The interior is coated in red lacquer to protect from ink stains and moisture, thus preserving the piece for long term use.  The deep red colour is characteristic of traditional Japanese lacquerware, and complements the natural appearance of bamboo.  The pattern of dark spots on the exterior was created by lightly singeing the surface, beautifully enhancing its aged character.  The original label is still attached to the front, and this piece is ample is size.  *PLEASE NOTE THAT THE BRUSHES ARE NOT INCLUDED.

Condition

It’s in very good condition aside from two minor splits on the exterior (they don’t go right through or impact usage), the lacquer has some minor wear, and there are some marks on the bottom.  Also the original label is still attached to the front, this is most likely removable.
