This listing is for a small bobblehead dragon made to commemorate the Year of the Dragon in 2024. Dragons are believed to be good luck and also a water god. It is also said that dragons will bring good luck during your descent to heaven. It is made of papier-mâché and has been painted a bright shade of turquoise/aqua. It has little curly whiskers made of wire, and pine, bamboo and ume painted on its body. It comes complete with a little wooden plaque as well as a red ceremonial mat made of thin felt.  It also comes with two Japanese language blessings / information about the twelve zodiac animals, and a paper storage box so it can be stored until the next Year of the Dragon.  *Please note that the colour didn’t photograph well, it’s a brighter turquoise/aqua than pictured.

Japanese okimono figurines are decorative items used for display purposes. Junishi okimono are those commemorating the twelve animals and mythological beasts from the astrological calendar. The Japanese astrological calendar is known as eto, and the twelve creatures are called junishi. The Zodiac’s popularity peaked during the Edo Era, and it was then that junishi okimono production became more widespread. These days, potters and production kilns produce hundreds of junishi each year to welcome the coming New Year. These are often displayed in shops, restaurants, people’s homes, and in tea rooms.
