This listing is for a 400ml Hasami-ware katakuchi tea bowl made by Chojuro Gama.  A katakuchi is a pouring bowl traditionally used for serving sake, however these days they are often used the same way as a yuzamashi is used to cool water before steeping tea leaves in a kyusu.  It is also possible to whisk matcha in a katakuchi.  The katakuchi in this listing is made of high fired stoneware and features ‘namako‘ sea cucumber glaze trailing down from the rim.   The stamp of the kiln can be found on the bottom, and it comes with a paper storage box.

Chojuro Gama refers to a Hasami-ware kiln located in the Hasami district of Nagasaki.  It was established in 1980 and primarily produces modern and stylish tableware for daily use.  Chojuro has earned a strong reputation for its mastery of glazes. Through careful experimentation with kiln placement and close observation of how different glazes melt, the kiln is able to create colours rarely seen elsewhere in Japan.  Each glaze is applied by hand in varying thicknesses, often resulting in unexpected and distinctive patterns. Hasami-ware refers to porcelain ware produced in Nagasaki Prefecture. It is characterized by its simple blue pigment designs on a pure white background. Originally this type of porcelain was produced for common people, however these days they are leading the field for their cutting edge tableware designs.
