This listing is for a vintage sakazuki sake cup made around 60 years ago.  This particular cup was one of many issued between 1964-1969 to commemorate the conferment of honours for those who died during World War II.  The system of conferring decorations was abolished after the end of the war, but was resumed by a cabinet decision in January 1964.  Between April 1964 and March 1969, approximately 1.54 million war dead were conferred ranks and decorations.  Families of fallen soldiers would have received this cup along with an invitation to attend a ceremony to receive a medal on behalf of the deceased.  The cup is engraved “commemoration of the war dead” and the bottom is engraved 24R.  The ‘R’ stands for rolled, and this cup is made of plated brass.  Rolled refers to the process that was used to add plating to this particular cup.  This piece comes with its original wooden storage box.

Condition

It’s in good condition aside from patina and a few minor scratches.  It needs a big clean to bring it bring to its original condition.
