This listing is for a small Mino-ware lidded jar made around 20 years ago by Hiroyama Gama.  It is moulded to resemble an eggplant and coated in yellow ki-seto glaze and trimmed with green on top.  This piece is ideal for storing tea bags, or may be used as a caddy however please note that it’s not airtight.  This piece appears to be completely unused and still has its original removable kiln label on the front.

Hiroyama Gama (also known as Hiroyama Toen) is a production grade kiln located in Toki city, Gifu Prefecture.  It was established in 1969 by Mizuno Hiroo, and specialises in folk crafts, tableware, and souvenirs.  Production methods include making wares using slip moulds, pressure casting, and power moulding.  Hiroyama products can be found in restaurants across Japan, and their ikebana pieces are sold in high end department stores across Japan.  **Fellow sellers, this information was researched by Kominka Zakka and CANNOT be used in your own listings.

Mino-ware refers to pottery produced in what was formerly the old Mino Province. Early examples of Mino-ware were predominantly ash-glazed stoneware pieces. Later however the use of the potter’s wheel, as well as a greater variety of glazes, began to characterize what is often thought to ideally represent Mino pottery today. Larger production kilns like Kozangama in Gifu Prefecture produce wares similar to Imari and Arita-ware. Various other kilns specialize in producing budget priced tableware, along with high end wares for various brand name stores and franchises around the country such as Tachikichi in Kyoto.
