This listing is for a chirimen ukiyoe puzzle in a lacquered wooden frame. Chirimen refers to crepe fabric, and the puzzle depicts one of Utamaro’s ‘beautiful women’ prints from the 1790s. Kitagawa Utamaro (1753-1806) was a Japanese artist who produced ukiyoe woodblock prints and paintings. The frame is fairly lightweight and the front is made of thin plastic, not glass. This item is most likely 30-40 years old.

Condition
There’s some minor scuffing/scratches on the frame plus some nicks in the lacquer. The plastic front has some light wear, and one of the puzzle pieces is slightly discoloured and has some pulls in the chirimen.
