This type of tray is for serving sweets but may be used as a fruit bowl as well. The Gyokusendo stamp can be found on the bottom, and it comes with its original signed wooden storage box. It also comes with a yellow wrapping cloth for when the item is not in use, and a Japanese language profile paper about Gyokusendo.
Gyokusendo is a Niigata based producer of high quality copperware and was established some 200 years ago during the Edo period. They are located in the metalworking district of Tsubame town, and they use locally sourced raw copper for their products. Their wares are created by hammering and shaping single sheets of copper, to do this they use 300 iron shaping rods and 200 kinds of hammers. The process requires repeated hammering and heating of metal in order for pieces to take shape. Traditional colouring methods are used for both utensils and artistic pieces, and kettles etc are tin plated to increase durability. Gyokusendo products are in high demand in parts of Europe, particularly their kitchen wares. **Fellow sellers, this information was researched by Kominka Zakka and CANNOT be used in your own listings.
