This listing is for a seasonal Kyo-ware chawan made around 10-20 years ago by noted potter, Hashimoto Eiho II.  It is wheel-thrown and the front is decorated with two sparrows among ears of rice.  The interior of the bowl features a small wooden ema, and the rim is trimmed with gold enamel.  It’s a beautifully decorated piece for the autumn season and has a nice deep shape for whisking.  The stamp of the potter can be found on the bottom, and it comes with its original signed wooden storage box.  It also comes with a paper outer box to protect the tomobako.

Hashimoto Eiho II (b.1969) is a Kyo-ware and second generation master of the Hashimoto family kiln. His father is master potter and Ninsei specialist Hashimoto Eiho I. In 1997 he graduated from Doshisha University and in 2001 he began studying glaze techniques at the Kyoto City Industrial Research Institute for Traditional Industries. Two years later he completed studies at the Kyoto Prefectural Ceramists' Technical Institute, and he became the second generation master of the family kiln the same year. He is a member of the Junior Division of the Kyoto Prefectural Ceramics Association, and has reached the level of Ninsei specialist. His hand-painted teaware fetches high prices on the open market and is highly regarded by tea enthusiasts. **Fellow sellers, this information was researched by Kominka Zakka and CANNOT be used in your own listings.

Kiyomizu-ware refers to a type or variation of Kyo-ware. Nonomura Ninsei is regarded as one of the key figures responsible for the development of the beautiful Kiyomizu-ware style that we know today. He produced tea utensils and mastered the secret technique for hand-painting overglaze enamels to look like brocade. This technique is very highly regarded and ranks up there with the finest Kutani-ware and Imari.
