This listing is for a pair of Karatsu-ware yunomi made around 20 years ago by Hiari Gama.  They are wheel-thrown and decorated with an iron oxide pine needle pattern. They have a slightly hourglass shape with a flared rim, and are very suitable for daily use. The stamp of the kiln can be found on the bottom of each cup, and they come with their original signed wooden storage box.

Hiari Gama opened during the Showa period and is now headed by the second generation master, Tsuruta Yutaka. The first generation was famous potter, Tsuruta Toyoki. Hiari Gama consists of a noborigama climbing kiln, and both generations are known for producing quality tableware and splendid tea ware. Tsuruta Toyoki won several awards for his exquisitely designed and hand-painted chawan and vases. The Hiari Gama stamp consists of three dots and a line, however both generations have their own distinctive signatures for their high end tea ware.  **Fellow sellers, this information was researched by Kominka Zakka cannot be used in your own listings.
