This listing is for a pack of origami paper made in Japan by Toyo Origami Co.  The pack contains 48 sheets of origami paper, each sheet is 15cm (5.9”) x 15cm (5.9”).  The set features Hokusai’s famous Thirty-Six Views of Mt. Fuji, plus illustrated Japanese language instructions for how to fold orizuru paper cranes.  It’s possible to understand the instructions without knowing how to read Japanese. 

Toyo Origami Co. is an origami paper factory established in 1971 in Tochigi Prefecture.  Most of the work is done by hand and they currently have forty-nine employees producing various kinds of specialty paper.  The process of cutting the folded paper to origami size is called dansai.  At Toyo, cutting is done by hand because machines cutting causes misalignment and produces defective products with uneven corners.  Toyo is one of the more popular brands in Japan because of its specialty patterns and designs, and they conduct tours for schoolchildren or those interested in origami.  **Fellow sellers, this information was researched by Kominka Zakka and CANNOT be used in your own listings.

Condition

This is vintage but hasn’t even been opened.  My wife purchased this paper when she first came to Japan, but she never used it, it was tucked away and is in mint condition.
