This listing is for a pair of Kiriko faceted glass sake cups made around 20-30 years ago. They feature a sasa-no-ha pattern, a pattern imitating bamboo leaves.  One glass is slightly taller than the other, but both have the same shape and pattern.  Kiriko glass if cared for properly will last for many, many years.  They come with their original paper storage box.

Hoya is a leading producer of high quality glassware, and they also produce stunning porcelain bone chinaware.  Their beginnings can be traced back to 1941 when two brothers opened an optical glass factory in Tokyo.  After 1945 they expanded their business and began to produce handcrafted crystal glassware such as tumblers and stemware, as well as crystal chandeliers.  They also began producing high quality bone china around the same time.  Their designs often include finely hand-painted flowers, and these are only found in high-end department stores.  **Fellow sellers, this information was researched by Kominka Zakka and CANNOT be used in your own listings.

Kiriko cut glass began 180 years during the Edo period and involved the technique of cutting patterns into the surface of glass. This type of glassware was very popular in Europe during the Meiji Period because of the unique Japanese designs and patterns reminiscent of kimono silk. Edo Kiriko remains popular today because of its beautiful designs and delicate cutting technology.  In 2002 Edo Kiriko was designated as a National Traditional Craft.
