This listing is for a HUGE ittobori koi wood carving made around 50-60 years ago.  It is carved from a solid piece of hardwood and has a clear lacquer finish.  It came from Sapporo in Hokkaido, however I’m not sure if it was actually made there, or somewhere in Honshu.  It would look wonderful overlooking a garden or in a Japanese style room, but it’s also an excellent piece of décor for a weekend cabin or pool room.

Condition

Overall it’s in very good condition aside from some general wear such as scuffing, light scratches, a mark between its mouth and eye, and a split in the fin on top.  There’s a chip near the base with a small split, some general wear along the edges, and some marks/worn lacquer on the back of the tail.  It’s an extremely solid piece.
