This listing is for a vintage Kiyomizu-ware yunomi made around 10-20 years ago by Kaho Touen.  It is wheel-thrown and features thick crackle glaze over a high-fired stoneware base.  It has a beautiful smooth finish and the cool blue colour is very suitable for winter.  The signature of the kiln can be found on the bottom, sorry no box for this one.  *PLEASE NOTE THAT THE CHASHAKU TEA SCOOP IS NOT INCLUDED.

Kaho Touen is a Kyo and Kiyomizu-ware kiln established in the 1950s in the Higashiyama pottery district in Kyoto.  The first generation specialised in producing vases for ikebana and tea ceremony, and the second generation switched production to tableware.  Kaho Touen tableware is known to be lightweight and also practical in design.  They are now one of the main kilns producing Kiyomizu ceramics in Kyoto, and a member of the Kyoto Federation of Ceramics Association.  **Fellow sellers, this information was researched by Kominka Zakka and CANNOT be used in your own listings.

Kiyomizu-ware refers to a type or variation of Kyo-ware. Nonomura Ninsei is regarded as one of the key figures responsible for the development of the beautiful Kiyomizu-ware style that we know today. He produced tea utensils and mastered the secret technique for hand-painting overglaze enamels to look like brocade. This technique is very highly regarded and ranks up there with the finest Kutani-ware and Imari.
