This listing is for a metal Kamakura Daibutsu ornament made around 10-20 years ago. It separates into two parts with the lower part serving as a trinket box. The Kamakura Daibutsu (the Great Buddha of Kamakura) was originally a large wooden structure completed in the year 1252 at Kotoku-in Temple in Kamakura. It was severely damaged in a storm and then rebuilt as a cast metal structure housed in a large hall. The hall was destroyed during a storm in 1334 and rebuilt, but then washed away during a tsunami in 1369. The Great Buddha is now an open air structure and designated as a National Treasure. It attracts thousands of visitors every year and is one of the main attractions in the Tokyo area.
