This listing is for a set of five glass plates branded as ‘Kansai Yamamoto’ fine china. Each plate is decorated with seasonal flowers such as sakura cherry blossoms, camellias, chrysanthemums, peonies and bellflower. The rims are trimmed with gold enamel, and the back of each plate has an opaque matte finish. They come with their original paper storage box, and they are suitable for any of the four seasons.
The Kansai Yamamoto brand is a collaboration between avant-gard designer Kansai Yamamoto (1944-2020) and Kansai Super Studio Co. Yamamoto is probably best known for designing David Bowie’s costumes for his Ziggy Stardust Tour. He apprenticed under designers Junko Hoshino and Hisashi Hosono, and was the first Japanese designer to have a show in London. Kansai Super Studio was established in 1973 and they mainly collaborate with designers to create new and innovative products. Momoyama Corporation is one of Kansai Super Studio’s tableware manufacturers. They are located in Tajima, Gifu Prefecture and officially registered their business in 2004. Condition
The entire set is in very good condition with no chips and cracks and appears completely unused, however the lid of the paper box has a torn spot where a label was most likely removed.
