This listing is for a splendid Hasami-ware bowl made by Kousho Gama. It is wheel-thrown and the interior is decorated with a hand-painted depiction of a fierce dragon. The piece is intended for serving rice, however it may also be used as a tea bowl for commemorating the Year of the Dragon. The signature of the kiln can be found on the bottom, and it comes with its original paper storage box. It also comes with a Japanese language profile paper.
Kousho Gama is a Hasami-ware kiln located in the Hasami pottery district in Nagasaki Prefecture. Kiln operations employ skilled craftsmen and women for casting, firing, hand painting and glazing. They specialise in producing indigo and cobalt underglaze pieces and mainly produce tableware. Kousho’s wares are durable and are sold at high end department stores across the country, and are frequently purchased for special events such as weddings and anniversaries. Hasami-ware refers to porcelain ware produced in Nagasaki Prefecture. It is characterized by its simple blue pigment designs on a pure white background.
