This listing is for a beautiful Kiyomizu-ware chawan made around 20 years ago. It is wheel thrown and decorated with an original illustration by Japanese female painter, Kuwano Mutsuko. This seasonal design features pink cherry blossoms, and it’s from the ‘Gosho no Hana’ series depicting twelve months of flowers growing in the Kyoto Imperial Palace Garden. This particular bowl represents the month of April from the series. The rim is trimmed with gold enamel, and the bowl has a pleasant and practical komogai shape. The stamp of Kuwano and the kiln can be found on the bottom, sorry no box for this one.
Kiyomizu-ware refers to a type or variation of Kyo-ware. Nonomura Ninsei is regarded as one of the key figures responsible for the development of the beautiful Kiyomizu-ware style that we know today. He produced tea utensils and mastered the secret technique for hand-painting overglaze enamels to look like brocade. This technique is very highly regarded and ranks up there with the finest Kutani-ware and Imari.

It’s in very good condition with no chips or cracks, the interior however is lightly seasoned with use.
