This listing is for a reasonably large Koransha plate made around 40 years ago.  It is made of porcelain and the front is decorated with an overlapping pattern of orchids.  The rim of the plate is scalloped and it’s trimmed with gold overglaze enamel.  The Koransha orchid mark can be found on the back, and it comes with its original paper storage box.  It also comes with an English language profile paper about Koransha.  Please read below and check the photos carefully before purchasing.  There are quite a few glaze imperfections, so I assume this plate was a ‘factory second’.

Koransha was founded in 1875 by Fukagawa Ezaiemon. He became head of his family's porcelain business and after an economic slump decided to concentrate on exports to the European and American markets. He named his company "Koransha," which means "The Company of the Scented Orchid." Koransha comes in a wide variety of designs and colours, and is a combination of traditional Japanese designs with Western style elements.

Condition

It’s in very good condition with no chips or cracks, however it has numerous glaze imperfections.  There are 13 small glaze spots/imperfections, and a faint line of gold enamel which is an imperfection.  The back of the plate is good.  There are some marks on the box and a tape tear on the bottom, and the box has a vintage smell.
