This listing is for a long Aizu-kiri tray made by Aizu Matsumoto.  Aizu-kiri refers to paulownia wood from the Aizu region in Fukushima.  Kiri wood is lightweight and the tray in this listing also features a light yaki-kiri finish.  Yaki-kiri involves singeing the surface to produce a clear wood grain and firmer finish.  Aizu paulownia products are reputed to be the best in Japan, but recently stocks are declining and products are getting harder to come by.

Aizu Matsumoto is a paulownia woodwork business with branches located in Aizu Wakamatsu and Koriyama in Fukushima Prefecture.   Their workshop was established 70 years ago, they specialise in producing traditional paulownia tansu as well as furniture that fits with the needs of modern living.  The first generation strived to preserve traditional techniques from the Aizu region to produce durable and high quality products sold all across Japan.  Aizu Matsumoto remains a popular choice for custom made furniture.  **Fellow sellers, this information was researched by Kominka Zakka and CANNOT be used in your own listings.
