This listing is for a set of twelve miniature Yixing production grade teapots with silk brocade box.  The set consists of the twelve animals belonging to the Chinese horoscope and are made with different colours of clay.  They hold approximately   15ml which in Japan makes them ‘one gulp’ teapots.  Due to their tiny size the set is more of a novelty item than a practical one.

Yixing refers to wares made from Yixing clay in the eastern Chinese province of Jiangsu. This particular type of clay is commonly used for the production of teapots. The best teapots are made from purple zisha clay because of its excellent porosity and heat handling properties.

Condition

Overall the set is in decent condition.  There’s a repair on one of the rabbit’s ears, and the dragon has a glaze imperfection on its face.  These little pots were made using slip moulds and the ‘seam’ is still visible in places.  The box has some loose threads, worn edges, and its discoloured on the bottom.
