This listing is for an Izushi-ware vase made around 5 years ago by noted potter, Nagasawa Jin.  It is wheel-thrown and made of high-fired porcelain, and the white colour resembles the milky water after rice is washed.  The opening is wide enough to hold a decent sized bouquet of flowers, and the signature of the potter can be found on the bottom.  It comes with its original signed paper storage box, as well as a Japanese language profile about the potter.

Nagasawa Jin (b.1971) is an Izushi-ware potter and member of the highly esteemed Nagasawa family of potters.  In 1995 he graduated from Aichi Prefectural University of Fine Arts and Music, and then went to Spain to work as an assistant in the workshop of Claudio Casanovas.  In 1996 he exhibited at the "FACTORIA DE LES ARTS" Exhibition held in Cataluña, Spain.  He returned to Japan after one year and held a solo exhibition at Gallery Asato in Nagoya in 1998.  He exhibited at Gallery Asato again in 1999, and he also held a solo exhibition at Gallery Kitanozaka in Kobe city.  In 2000 he held a workshop at Kyung Hee University in Korea, and participated in a group exhibition at Tsuchi Gallery in Seoul.  In 2001 he held a solo exhibition at the Hanshin Department Store Art and Craft Salon in Osaka, and another at Gallery Asato in Nagoya.  He held many solo exhibitions on Osaka, Kobe and Nagoya from 2002-2006, and in 2003 he exhibited work at the 4th Izushi Porcelain Triennial in Hyogo.  He received an Honourable Mention at the 2007 Kobe Biennale Contemporary Ceramic Art Exhibition, and he received a Special Jury Award in 2009 at the ‘FROM IZUSHI’ Exhibition held at the Hyogo Ceramic Art Museum.  In 2011 he received the 13th Tajima Culture Award, and in 2016 he participated in a Korea-Japan Ceramic Art Exchange Exhibition.  In 2019 he exhibited work at the Han Song Art Hall in Korea, and he received the Hyogo Prefecture Art Encouragement Award.  **Fellow sellers, this information was researched by Kominka Zakka and CANNOT be used in your own listings.

Izushi-ware refers to white porcelain produced in the town of Izushi, in Hyogo Prefecture. During the 1700s kaolin was discovered in the area, resulting in an influx of craftsmen being brought in from Arita to help with production. Izushi-ware is characterized by its clean, pure white surface, as well as its elegant designs. Also there are two types of glazes, transparent and matte. Nowadays kilns mainly produce items for the tea ceremony, but they also produce a fine range of vases and okimono.
