Nakano Tochi IV (1916 - 2012) was a Karatsu-ware potter and the fourth generation master of Nakano Gama.  Nakano Gama has been a long favourite of the Imperial Family, they have been selected several times to present gifts during imperial visits to Kyushu.  The first was the Meiji emperor in Meiji 44.  Nakano Tochi graduated from Osaka University of Economics, but later returned to Saga to study pottery from his father (Nakano Yorinobu III).  He became the first president of the Karatsu-ware Ceramic Association, and was later designated as an Intangible Cultural Property of Saga Prefecture by the Japanese Government.  He won many awards throughout his career, and he was responsible for reviving traditional glaze techniques and methods for decorating e-Karatsu pieces.  **Fellow sellers, this information was researched by Kominka Zakka and CANNOT be used in your own listings.
