This listing is for a pair of celadon glaze rice bowls made around 15 years ago.  They are made of high fired stoneware and are coated in green celadon glaze.  The front of both bowls is decorated with a red, gold and white dragon, and the back features two flaming pearls of wisdom.  In between the dragon and one pearl of wisdom is the kanji for Nikko, which is home to a famous shrine in Tochigi Prefecture.  The stamp of the kiln can be found on the bottom of each bowl.

Celadon refers to a type of glaze as well as a specific type of ware, both are characterized by a very pale green, powder blue, or grey-blue colour. The colour largely depends on the presence of iron in the clay and of iron oxide, manganese oxide, and quartz particles in the glaze. Firing conditions in the kiln also play a big role in determining colour.
