This listing is for a synthetic resin Kamakura-bori tea caddy and lacquered spoon.  The small spoon is made of wood and is lacquered the same colour as the caddy.  The caddy is plastic and has a plastic lid on the interior to keep the contents fresh and dry.  This piece is perfect for outdoor use like picnics as you won’t have to worry about scratches or scrapes. 

The process for making Kamakura-bori lacquerware is a very long and arduous one. First the design is transferred onto the surface, then it is chiselled out resulting in a shallow relief pattern. The remainder of the surface is then carved to create a bumpy textured surface. This is followed by multiple layers of lacquer, the penultimate being black and the final being red. The piece is then polished and receives a final layer of lacquer. The craftsman continues this process until a smooth shiny surface is achieved.

The caddy has light scratches here and there, and there are two chipped off pieces of lacquer on the end of the spoon.
