This listing is for a VERY SMALL Ichimatsu ningyo doll, he weighs just 90grams.  He is dressed in his original costume and his hair consists of actual human hair. His head is attached with the original string, and his gentle features were created from layers of gofun that were applied over a clay base. His tiny mouth is closed and he has delicate colouring on his lips. Please read below regarding the condition of the doll as he needs a bit of love and care.

Ichimatsu dolls take their name from an 18th century kabuki performer, although the dolls themselves represent small boys and girls and not adults. Parts of the doll are made from clay press moulds. The clay is fired and then coated with thick layers of gofun, a paste made of crushed oyster shell powder mixed with animal based glue. Before the gofun is applied the doll is given glass eyes, and layers of gofun are painted over the eyes. The craftsman then carves away the surface until the eyes become visible again. Finally, the skin colour is added and detail is added to the lips, eyes, and cheeks. Hair is added by pasting strips of real human hair around the head. It is the doll maker’s job to cut the hair on the front to create a fringe. The torso is wrapped with paper and often bears to seal of the craftsman. The finally stage involves dressing the doll in clothes which is usually formal and a type of kimono. These clothes are not necessarily made of silk, it is quite common for dolls to have their costumes fashioned from chirimen crepe fabric.

Condition

His biggest problem is he has one leg missing.  Also his neck needs restringing, it’s really loose so his head flops about.  There are marks on his face and the black part around his hairline has washed off a little, his hair is messy, his hands have marks, and finally his clothes have stains but no holes that I could see.
