This listing is for a very small Miharu-goma wooden horse dated Showa 33 (1958). Miharu-goma are brightly coloured wooden horses from Fukushima. They are angular in shape and feature red, blue and yellow decorations hand-painted onto the body. The mane and tail are made from coarse hemp fibre, and Miharu-goma are generally black or white in colour. It is said that the origin of Miharu-goma is based on a legend about 100 wooden horses that suddenly appeared and helped Heian shogun Sakanoue no Tamuramaro succeed in battle.  The little horse in this listing comes with a Japanese language profile paper about Miharu-goma, and its original paper storage box.  The handwriting on the bottom of the box reads as ‘Showa 33 (1958) Yadake Onsen sounvenir’.
