This listing is for a vintage vase possibly made around 50-60 years ago by noted potter, Suda Shoho.  It is wheel-thrown and features Korean Karatsu glaze work, and is meant to be a reinterpretation of an art object from the past.  It has two small handles on the neck, and a slightly flared rim at the top.  It is not signed on the bottom, but the paper inside of the paper box attributes this piece to Suda.  We cannot say 100% whether this piece was made by Suda or not, so we are selling it at a regular price.

Suda Shoho (1885-1974) was a ceramic artist born in Kyoto. He worked in his family's ceramic business, and began making teaware under the name Shoun at the end of the Meiji period. In 1925 he was given the name Shoho by the 14th head of the Urasenke school Tantansai Soshitsu (1893-1964), and the name Josetsuan by Maruyama Denne (1871-1940), Chief Abbott of Daitokuji Temple.  Later he built a kiln in Gojozaka and began making pottery, mainly copying Japanese and Korean wares. He was an artist who excelled in various copies of Joseon, Karatsu, Ninsei, Takatori, Ido, Kyo, Seto, Irabo, Mishima, Koetsu, Shigaraki, Annan, and Mishima wares, and left behind many elegant works. His wide range of work is rarely seen among current artists, so he is known as a legendary master craftsman. The tea utensils he produced are not too heavy, not too light, not too large, and not too small, and are highly praised and loved by tea masters. After Suda passed away in 1974, his successor took over, but he is no longer making pottery, and the name Suda Shoho has disappeared.  **Fellow sellers, this information was researched by Kominka Zakka and CANNOT be used in your own listings.
