This listing is for a Tajima-ware chawan made around 20-30 years ago. It is wheel-thrown and made of high-fired stoneware clay. This piece has a raspy texture and appears to be wood-fired. The signature of the potter can be found on the bottom, sorry no box. *PLEASE NOTE THAT THE CHASHAKU TEA SCOOP AND CHASEN TEA WHISK ARE NOT INCLUDED.
Tajima-ware refers to pottery produced in Toyooka City, Hyogo Prefecture. It is earthy and warm, and it’s made using clay similar to Shigaraki. Tajima-ware consists of unglazed yakishime pieces and those coated in slip, as well as larger wood-fired wares coated in natural ash glaze. Tableware and chawan feature imprints of leaves and grass, and damp unfired greenware is sometimes wrapped in cloth to create a fine texture on the exterior. Sasaura Gama is representative of Tajima-ware and can be freely toured by visitors.
