This listing is for a Tokoname-ware tea set made around 10 years ago by Takasuke Gama. The set consists of a kyusu style teapot and two matching yunomi tea cups. The kyusu holds 300ml, and the cups are a meoto husband and wife pair. Each piece features green glaze and the front is decorated with hyotan. The gourd, or hyotan as it is known in Japanese, is an auspicious symbol linked to longevity and fertility. They are also thought to symbolize happiness and success, thus making them a popular motif during New Year. The stamp of the kiln can be found near the base of each piece, and the set comes with its original signed wooden storage box.
Takasuke Gama is a Tokoname-ware kiln known for its high-quality tea ware. Their clay contains a lot of iron oxide, and this reacts with the tannin and removes any bitterness resulting in a more mellow flavour. For that reason, their teapots are very popular amongst tea enthusiasts. Takasuke vessels are typically lightweight and come in a range of colours and designs. **Fellow sellers, this information was researched by Kominka Zakka and CANNOT be used in your own listings.
