This listing is for a very seasonal Kankake-ware chawan tea bowl made by noted potter, Tanimoto Shuko. It is hand-turned and features transparent golden-green transparent glaze over a low-fired base. The front also features imprints of momiji maple leaves trimmed with brown glaze. This is a lovely piece for the cooler months. The stamp and signature of the potter can be found on the bottom, and it comes with its original signed wooden storage box. It also comes with a stamped orange wrapping cloth for when the item is not in use, as well as a Japanese language profile paper about Kankake-ware. *PLEASE NOTE THAT THE CHASHAKU TEA SCOOP IS NOT INCLUDED.
Kankake-ware refers to pottery made in Kagawa Prefecture on the island of Shikoku. It has the same soft look as Raku-ware, however Kankake-ware is harder and is more like Seto-ware in that sense. Kankake kilns are generally located near Kankake gorge, and potters tend to use the soft clay from Shodo-shima Island.
