This listing is for a fabric rooster okimono made by Tatsumura Textile Co.   The rooster is made of crepe fabric and features a brocade jacket.  According to the description provided the pattern is based on a piece of fabric dating back to the Tang dynasty.  It is Islamic in style and consists of two confronted birds inside a floral circle.  Tatsumura has reworked this design in red, green and yellow and added a string on front to fasten the jacket. This rooster was most likely made to commemorate the Year of the Rooster back in 1993. 

Tatsumura Textile Co., LTD originated in Kyoto and was established by Tatsumura Heizo I (1876-1962).  Tatsumuro began working with textiles at the tender age of 16 after his father passed away.  He left school in Osaka and began working for Nishijin Textile Centre in Kyoto.  At Nishijin he learned weaving and textile restoration.  Two years later at age 18 he became an independent textile manufacturer and opened Tatsumura Textile Co.  In 1965 he received the Imperial Award from the Japan Art Academy for his contribution to the textile industry.  He also received the highly coveted Medal with Purple Ribbon Award from the Japanese government.  These days Tatsumura Textile Co. LTD has branches in Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka.  Heizo is fondly remembered for his contribution to the world of textiles both here in Japan and abroad, as well as his contribution to textile art.  **Fellow sellers, this information was researched by Kominka Zakka and cannot be used in your own listings.
