This listing is for a ceramic shochu bottle made around 20 years ago. It is made of high-fired slip and depicts an ushi-oni bull demon from Uwajima in Ehime Prefecture, Shikoku. An ushi-oni is a large bull with a long neck that appears at festivals in Uwajima, particularly during summer festivals. Ushi-oni floats are paraded through the town, and people go from house to house to exorcise evil spirits. Wooden ushi-oni ornaments are often placed at the entrance of their homes or in places where people gather to ward off evil spirits. Please note that this listing is for the bottle only, and that it doesn’t have a cork stopper. It would make an interesting vase.
