This listing is for a set of mini calligraphy tools made around 30-40 years ago.  The set consists of an ink stone, an ink stick, an indented black tray that can be taken in and out, a hanko stamp and a celadon glaze water dropper.  It comes in a round case with a tsuishu-style lid that is carved with Chinese landscape scenery.  The case is made of synthetic resin coated with durable cashew lacquer paint. 

Cashew lacquer paint is a lacquer-based synthetic resin paint invented and patented by Cashew Co., Ltd. in 1948.  In Japan many traditional crafts are coated with lacquer.  Compared to lacquer, cashew paint is easier to work with, and has a finish very similar to lacquer.  Cashew paint is used not only for lacquerware, but also for Buddhist altars, altar fittings, fusuma sliding door rims, doll fittings, luxury furniture, musical instruments, fishing gear, and all other crafts that pursue beauty. It is also used indoors in buildings such as shrines and temples, and its sharpness and durability testify to its high quality surpassing that of natural lacquer.  **Fellow sellers, this information was researched by Kominka Zakka and CANNOT be used in your own listings.

Tsuishu refers to a traditional type of Japanese lacquerware.  It originated in China and was introduced to Japan during the Heian period.  The making process involves carving a thick layer of solid lacquer and designs typically feature Chinese landscapes, birds and flowers.  These days, tsuishu artisans mainly produce tea caddies, suzuribako, vases and trays.  Sendai in Tohoku is particularly famous for its beautiful range of tsuishu products.
