This listing is for a pair of accessories for a Gogatsu display in honour of Children’s Day in Japan.  It is tradition to display such items during Tango-no-sekku festivities in early May in the hope that sons will grow up with courage and strength.  The two items in this listing are a sword and a bow with arrows.  They are made of a combination of wood, lacquer, plastic, metal, silk and thin cardboard.  The accompanying paper box includes the name of the recipient and is dated Showa 46 (1971).  Please read below in regards to the condition of the items.

Paper Box:  H.11.2cm (4.4”) x 50cm (19.6”) x 11cm (4.3”)

Sword with Stand:  H.33.5cm (13.1”) x 8.7cm (3.4”) across x 8.7cm (3.4”) from back to front

Bow with Arrows with Stand:  H.45.5cm (17.9”) x 8.7cm (3.4”) across x 8.7cm (3.4”) from back to front

Condition

Overall they’re in pretty good condition aside from the following.  The appearance of the sword is good but the tie that secures it to the stand is missing so it slips down easily with the slightest movement.  The handle part is loose and has separated from the tsuba (guard), and the tassel part is scruffy. The bow and arrows are in pretty good condition aside from missing feathers on one arrow, and one arrow is missing its tip.  The lacquer stands have some minor wear eg scuffing and light scratches.  The paper storage box is a little discoloured and has some minor stains, it also has some tears and holes.
