This listing is for a reasonably large pair of vintage hime daruma made around 20 years ago. Hime daruma are given as wedding gifts and to mothers of newborn children. The dolls are said to provide mother and baby with good health and protection from ill omens for one year. Hime daruma usually come in pairs, the female is clad in red silk and the male in purple. They are said to represent empress Consort Jingu and emperor Chuai. Emperor Chuai was the 14th emperor of Japan, and empress Jingu was the 15th, although now it is believed that her son was in fact the 15th reigning emperor.

Condition
Both dolls are in very good condition aside from some minor issues. The boy doll has some loose threads, his white undergarment is a little discoloured, the silk is faded (the bottom is much brighter), and he has some marks on his nose. Also the blush on his right cheek appears to be smudged. The girl doll has a mark and some shallow dents on her nose, and her silk is also faded.
