This listing is for a splendid Kaba-zaiku cherry bark chabitsu. A chabitsu is a round box for holding tea sets. The chabitsu in this listing is made of cherry bark and the lid is decorated with a leaf-shaped pattern using different colours of bark. It has a beautiful smooth finish and its rich dark colour is suitable for any of the four seasons. To clean your chabitsu use a damp cloth and never allow water to sit inside.

Kaba-zaiku refers to wares made in Akita Prefecture using the bark of cherry trees. Cherry tree bark is known for its naturally beautiful patterns and deep brown colour. The bark is professionally lacquered resulting in a very smooth and strong finish. This is particularly important in cold places like Tohoku mainly because everyday items need moisture and cold protection. Kaba-zaiku has been recognized as an important traditional craft of Tohoku and tends to be very expensive.
