This listing is for a vintage Kiyomizu-ware sake set made around 20 years ago. The set includes a small tokkuri and two matching sakazuki style sake cups. The kanji on the front of the tokkuri says ‘Kyoto’ and the bottom says ‘Kiyomizu’. This is a great little set for a tipple after dinner.
Kiyomizu-ware refers to a type or variation of Kyo-ware. Nonomura Ninsei is regarded as one of the key figures responsible for the development of the beautiful Kiyomizu-ware style that we know today. He produced tea utensils and mastered the secret technique for hand-painting overglaze enamels to look like brocade. This technique is very highly regarded and ranks up there with the finest Kutani-ware and Imari.
