This listing is for a Kiyomizu-ware chawan made around 30 years ago by Kyoraku Gama.  It is wheel-thrown and the front and interior is decorated with hand-painted depictions of bamboo.  Bamboo is known for being hardy and is considered to bring luck, and it was also a favourite of the great Kenzan Ogata.  The mark of the kiln can be found on the bottom, and it comes with its original signed wooden storage box.  *PLEASE NOTE THAT THE CHASEN TEA WHISK IS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS LISTING.

Kiyomizu-ware refers to a type or variation of Kyo-ware. Nonomura Ninsei is regarded as one of the key figures responsible for the development of the beautiful Kiyomizu-ware style that we know today. He produced tea utensils and mastered the secret technique for hand-painting overglaze enamels to look like brocade. This technique is very highly regarded and ranks up there with the finest Kutani-ware and Imari.
