This listing is for a wooden natsume tea caddy with shifuku and tomobako. Natural wood natsume are ideally used during the summer months, especially in humid climates. This particular natsume also features black lacquer on the interior , and it is signed under the lid. The inscription on the underside of the box lid was written by Hotani Komei, head priest of Daitokuji temple. Hotani Komei (1913-1995) was a high-ranking priest of the Daitokuji school of the Rinzai sect, and was known as a master calligrapher. As a priest, he served as the chief abbot (representative) of the Daitokuji sect, and had made great achievements such as working hard to restore historic sites. This particular item also comes with a shifuku. The pattern is called ‘sasazuru’, a pine cone, bamboo, and plum textile originally from China during the Ming Dynasty 15th-16th century.

It’s in very good condition aside from some marks/stains and a minor scratch on the lid.
