This listing is for a reasonably large Tokoname-ware yuzamashi made around 30-40 years ago for the Yamaki Ikai brand of tableware and teaware.  It is made from a slip mould and the front is decorated with white daylilies over a pale green background.  It holds 500ml when full but the recommendation is to serve between 300-400ml when preparing tea.  Tokoname clay contains a lot of iron oxide, and this reacts with the tannin and removes any bitterness resulting in a more mellow flavour.   This piece comes with its original paper storage box, as well as Japanese language instructions for using and storing the yuzamashi.

Tokoname-ware refers to stoneware pottery made in Tokoname City in Aichi Prefecture. This type of pottery has been in production for over 1000 years, and originally potters created religious items as well as tea utensils. Tokoname-ware is now more widely known for its pottery using red clay.
